Your SDS collection as Your Safety Keystone!

WHMIS Safety Data Sheet collections are goldmines of information yet we groan when we think about them! Why is that? The average SDS is 10 pages. Thus having 10 hazardous materials in your organization means 100 pages of information!  Most of us only need a few nuggets of information at a time and we are overwhelmed by the volume.  But what if you could quickly extract the hazard information from those 10 chemicals to just one page?  That's exactly what SDS RiskAssist software does.

1. Making Safety Your Keystone Habit

We are hearing more about how safety conscious organizations are profitable organizations.  The article, “Profits Should Not Come at the Cost of Workplace Safety”, is a good example of this.  It details how Alcoa reversed their fortunes by making safety a “keystone habit”. So where do you start with your organization? There are many great resources to help.  OSHA's “Recommended Practices for Safety and Health Programs” is a great place to begin.  The Core Elements provide good guidance on how to build your safety program.

2. Health Risk Identification

To identify your hazardous chemical health and physical risks, turn to your safety data sheets and SDS RiskAssist software.  Simply upload your SDS collection and presto - the software summarizes your potential risks. It will even deliver guidance on local regulations relevant to your potential risks.  Now you can act! Perhaps you can eliminate a chemical product. Or you can substitute it with something safer. Maybe that hazardous chemical is critical to your business but now you have clear understanding on the routes of exposure and how to protect employees.

3. Engage Your Employees

You can also share SDS RiskAssist with your employees on any mobile device. This will help with chemical specific training and support. Engage your employees in the decision-making process and they will have confidence in the organization! That’s just good for business!
